What "split system cleaning" actually means
The bit most cleaners skip is the indoor coil. That's where 90% of the dirt + mould lives. Here's the order we do it in.
STEP 1 · COVER + PROTECT
Catch tarp under the unit, towels on the floor, drop sheet covering anything underneath. We don't make a mess in your house, and if anything inside the unit drips during the clean it lands in the tarp not on your floor.
STEP 2 · OPEN + INSPECT
Front cover off, filter out, blower wheel checked. We take a quick photo of the state of the coil before we start so you can see the before. Most splits we open up in Brisbane look like they've never been touched — black biofilm, brown dust mat on the fins.
STEP 3 · CHEMICAL WASH THE COIL
This is the bit most "$70 specials" skip. We spray a biocidal cleaner across the indoor coil fins, let it sit and break down the dirt, then high-pressure rinse it. The runoff goes into the tarp. The coil comes out the colour the manufacturer intended.
STEP 4 · DRAIN PAN + LINE FLUSH
Drain pan vacuumed and biocide-flushed. Drain line flushed from inside out. This is what stops the #1 service call in Brisbane — water dripping from the indoor unit because the drain line clogged with algae.
STEP 5 · FILTER + REASSEMBLE
Filter washed in antibacterial solution, dried, popped back in. (If the filter is damaged we'll tell you and carry common replacements.) Unit reassembled, sealed, powered up.
STEP 6 · PERFORMANCE TEST
Run it on max cooling for 5 mins. Measure air outlet temp with a thermal probe. Compare to ambient room temp. Most splits we clean gain 3-6°C of cooling capacity back — number gets written on the receipt so you know what you got.
OPTIONAL · OUTDOOR UNIT ADD-ON
Optional add-on at a flat per-unit rate. Condenser fins washed with low-pressure water (high pressure bends them — careful work). Any clogged grass clippings, pollen, leaves pulled out. Bent fins straightened with a fin comb. Brisbane's pollen season clogs these badly and most homeowners never look at them.

How much is a split system clean?

How often should I clean a split system in Brisbane?
Every 12 months for a home that runs the AC a few hours a day. Every 6-8 months if you run it most of the day, smoke in the house, or have pets that shed heavily. Brisbane's humidity is harder on splits than southern cities — 12 months isn't a manufacturer marketing number, it's the actual service interval.
How long does one split system take?
Depends on the depth of clean and whether we're doing the outdoor unit too. We allow plenty of time per unit so the techs aren't rushing — the exact window is part of the quote we send through, no surprises on the day.
Will my AC run colder after a clean?
Almost always. We measure it. Most splits we clean gain 3-6°C of cooling capacity back. That number goes on your receipt so you can see the actual difference, not just take our word for it.
Can I clean the filter myself?
Yes — every month, takes 5 minutes, costs $0. Pull the front cover off, take the filter out, vacuum it, wash it under the tap if it's dirty, dry it, put it back. The bit you need a pro for is the coil itself — DIY kitchen-spray on the coil damages the fins and voids warranties.
What if my split is dripping water inside?
90% of the time it's a blocked drain line — Brisbane humidity makes the line clog with algae after 12-18 months. Our drain flush fixes it. If it's NOT a drain blockage, it might be a frozen coil (low refrigerant) or cracked pan — both need a refrigeration tech, which we'll refer you to.
